Company ProfileHarris Sample Book, Inc is a manufacturer of custom fabric sample books for the re-upholstery, drapery, furniture, apparel, and napery industries. Our work can be seen in shops across the U.S. and worldwide. Harris Sample Book was founded in 1953 by John "Buddy" Harper and was known as Harper Sample Book. It was purchased in 1968 from Mr. Harper by Jerry Harris. Mr. Harper continued on with the company until his retirement in 1979 and remained a part of our extended family for many years until his death in 2002. Jerrys' sons Mac and Hal joined the Company in 1983 and 1988 respectively and in 1990 they purchased the company from Jerry. In 1993 Harris Sample Book purchased land in Monticello Georgia. A plant was subsequently built on the site and operations were relocated to the Monticello facility in 1995. Traditionally, sample book manufacturing has been a labor-intensive proposition. With rising labor costs, many sample book manufacturers have fled outside of the U. S. It is our opinion that the attendant cost savings that they have realized by this move have been accompanied by an increase in freight costs and, at least temporarily, a decrease in quality. While this has been good for the respective sample book manufacturers, overall, we do not feel that this trend has been beneficial to you, our potential customer. It's not that we have a quarrel with cutting costs, rather it is the method in which this is achieved with which we find fault. In order to combat rising costs, we have embarked upon a campaign of modernization and automation. This has allowed us to produce your projects at a price that is competitive with the relocated sample book manufacturers and that at the same time has actually improved both the quality of our work and the efficiency in which it has been done. We are pleased with what we have accomplished thus far in the process and have plans to do more in this area to continue to give you the highest quality samples at a reasonable price.
